بحر آرال

بحر أرال (بالإنجليزية: Aral Sea) هو بحر داخلي يقع في آسيا الوسطى، عرفه جغرافيو العرب ببحر خوارزم مقسّم ما بين كازخستان شمالا و أوزبكستان جنوبا في 1960م.

كانت مساحته تغطي 68,000 كم مربع. أقصى عمق فيه 68م تفصله هضبة أوست أورت و تتصل به صحاري كيزبل كوم و كاراكوم الرملية. يصب فيه نهران سيردريا و أمودريا و فيه جزر كثيرة. و يسكن بجوارة بعض رعاة الماشية ،كما يوجد فيه مرفأ آرالسك 25000ن يستخرج الملح منه و فيه مصائد للسمك لإنتاج الكافيار.

قررت الحكومة الروسيه في 1918 بقيادة فلاديمير لينين والبلشفيون تحويل اثنين من الأنهار التى تغذي بحر الارال، في شمال شرقي البلاد ، ليتم محاولة ري الصحاري، من اجل زراعة الأرز، البطيخ، والحبوب، وأيضا، القطن؛ وكان ذلك جزءا من خطة لزراعة القطن، أو "الذهب الابيض" للتصدير. و أوزبكستان هي اليوم واحدة من أكبر الدول المصدرة للقطن.
