طالش (بالطالشية: Tolış؛ الأذرية: Talış؛ الفارسية: تالش) هي منطقة تقع على الساحل الجنوبي الغربي لبحر قزوين.^[1] هي موطن شعب الطالش الأصلي، الذين يسكنون المنطقة ويتحدثون اللغة الطالشية.^[2] إن المنطقة واللغة هما ما يميزان طالش عن جيرانها.^[1]

طالش مقسمة الآن بين أذربيجان وإيران.^[2] يمتد شمالًا من النهر الأبيض، الذي يخترق جبال البرز في محافظة جيلان الإيرانية، إلى نهر أراس في جنوب جمهورية أذربيجان.^[3]

المدينة الرئيسة في المنطقة وشعبها التاليشي هي لانكران^[4]^[5]^[6] وأغلبية سكانها من أصل طالشي.^[7]^[8]^[9]^[10]

الأسماء وأصلها

عُثر على الاسم لأول مرة في الترجمة الأرمنية لرواية الإسكندر باسم "طـ الش". النطق الفارسي للاسم في صيغة الجمع كان "تاليشان" (الفارسية: تالشان).^[11]

وتُعرف المنطقة أيضًا باسم طالشستان^[12] وتالشستان.^[2]^[13]

التركيبة السكانية

معظم الطالشيين هم من المسلمين الشيعة.^[11]
