خوسيه بينتو ريناتو مونتيرو لوباتو José Bento Renato Monteiro Lobato ؛(من مواليد 18 أبريل 1882 - وتوفي في 4 يوليو 1948) كان واحدا من الكتاب الأكثر نفوذا في البرازيل، و مترجم وناقد للفن. أسس أيضا واحدة من أول دور النشر في البرازيل (Companhia Editora Nacional) وكان مؤيدا للقومية. ولد لوباتو في Taubaté، في ساو باولو. وهو معروف بمجموعة من كتب الأطفال التعليمية والمسلية التي تشكل حوالي نصف إنتاجه. والنصف الآخر، الذي يتألف من عدد من الروايات والحكايات القصيرة للقراء الكبار، وكان نقطة تحول في الأدب البرازيلي.
