Ola S.N. Hassamo

Ola S.N. Hassamo is a Syrian writer, artist, and developmental activist with multiple talents, described by some media as a "comprehensive cultural face." She resides in Stockholm.

Early Life[عدل]

Ola S.N. Hassamo was born in the city of Tartous, Syria, in 1985. Her artistic and literary inclination began early; she acted in children's plays at the age of 11-12, and later engaged in media activities in her school during middle and high school through the school radio and newspaper. She chose her university major in media at the Faculty of Media at Damascus University. During her school and university years, she participated in various literary evenings and competitions and received several certificates of appreciation from the University Graduates Association and the National Union of Syrian Students.

Professional Life[عدل]

Between Syria, Lebanon, and Sweden, Ola S.N. Hassamo worked in various associations, institutions, and organizations simultaneously, in the developmental, humanitarian, and cultural fields. Her inclination to work for the benefit of children in different fields is evident, but this did not prevent her from publishing literary works for adults, some of which have been printed and others are still in progress.

Developmental Work[عدل]

  • Worked as an interactive theater trainer, storyteller, creative writing instructor, and child protection trainer in many NGOs in Syria and Lebanon, such as the UNHCR, Syrian Society for Social Development (SSSD), UNICEF, and as a freelance worker between 2010 and 2019.
  • Drama teacher for adolescents and children at the Phoenix Bird School in Tartous, Syria (2012-2014).
  • Founded the "Sadenoun Cultural Workshop" in 2015, which lasted until 2015 and was like a cultural café that regularly organized literary and musical evenings, art exhibitions, and various training workshops.
  • Supervisor and trainer on children's rights and case management at the SSSD, and a national coordinator for the child protection sector.
  • After moving to Sweden, she worked as a storyteller, trainer, and multi-talented artist with the Eskilstuna Public Library and other libraries around Eskilstuna (2019-2022).

Media Work[عدل]

  • Freelance journalist for several magazines, newspapers, and websites (Baladna, Al-Ghorbal, Farouj, Jiroun) from 2007 to 2018.
  • Writer and editor for several Syrian and Arab children's magazines (Fares Al-Ghad, Al-Arabi Al-Sagheer, Zaitoon and Zaitouna, Haneen, Osama, Zaraq) from 2011 to 2018.
  • Program creator for children on Raya FM, Turkey (2014).
  • Editor-in-chief of Shamaa Magazine for Early Childhood, Syria (2016-2018).

Ola S.N. Hassamo published in numerous prestigious magazines such as Al-Adab, Jiroun, Al-Safir, Ababil, and the Mexican magazine "Poetry Movement."
