Looking for people experienced in two languages for a project research

The research team has started a new project consists into finding matches for section titles. For that project, we are looking for people with a certain proficiency in two of the following wikis:

• Arabic Wikipedia
• English Wikipedia
• Spanish Wikipedia
• French Wikipedia
• Japanese Wikipedia
• Russian Wikipedia

We are particularly looking forward people contributing in Wikipedias using different scripts (ar ↔️ fr, ru ↔️ es, ja ↔️ ar...). Most translations are already done for English.

The goal of that research is to map the different section titles. The final project is to create an algorithm to ease translations, by getting more accurate translations on section titles and a better alignement between conventions (details).

If you can help, please access the document (a Google speadsheet) and read the instructions there. Please also share that information to anyone who can help! :)

• يمكن للمستخدمين الذين يستخدمون تطبيق ويكيبيديا المخصص لأجهزة أندرويد أو iOS إنشاء قوائم قراءة. يمكن الاطلاع على قوائم القراءة على عدة أجهزة لو كنت مسجل الدخول إلى حسابك. يوجد الآن امتداد لمتصفح الإنترنت حتى يمكنك إضافة الصفحات إلى قائمة قراءتك من متصفح الإنترنت. في الوقت الحالي هذا الامتداد يعمل على فيرفوكس وكروم. • يوجد إصدار جديد من Pywikibot. هذا البوت هو أداة تستخدم في أتمتة المهام على مواقع ويكي ميدياويكي. [9]

مشاكل

تغييرات مستقبلية

• لن يمكن لبعض متصفحات الإنترنت القديمة قراءة محتوى مواقع الويكي التابعة لويكيميديا. هذا الأمر بسبب أنها تستعين بسبيل غير آمن للاتصال بالمواقع. ويعني هذا أننا لا نوفر الأمان للجميع. يؤثر هذا الأمر على حوالي 0.08% من إجمالي الزيارات التي تستقبلها مواقع ويكي ويكيميديا. على سبيل المثال يؤثر هذا الأمر على من يقرؤون ويكيبيديا على جهاز بلاي ستيشن 3. Tidy to RemexHtml

New user group for editing sitewide CSS/JS

• تأخر إصدار ميدياويكي الذي صدر منذ أسبوعين على بعض مواقع الويكي التابعة لويكيميديا. كان هذا الأمر بسبب مشكلات فنية. إلا أن الإصدار أضيف إلى كافة مواقع الويكي يوم 30 يوليو/تموز. [47][48]

Editing of sitewide CSS/JS is only possible for interface administrators from now

as announced previously, permission handling for CSS/JS pages has changed: only members of the interface-admin (إداريو الواجهة) group, and a few highly privileged global groups such as stewards, can edit CSS/JS pages that they do not own (that is, any page ending with .css or .js that is either in the MediaWiki: namespace or is another user's user subpage).   • The page creation and edit rate limit imposed in April will be removed in the next days. However, users who are not bots or administrators are throttled to 90 edits per minute (which was set up on all Wikimedia wikis in May).
  • These new languages are now supported for monolingual text strings: mid, mnw, gmy, rar, haz, uga. The language doesn't show up in the suggester, but you can save the statement and it will be stored properly.
  • Reminder: Wikidata's sixth birthday happens in two months. It's time to think about organizing a meetup with your local community, or preparing a gift (see the list of presents last year).
  • Lexicographical data: you can now try Senses on beta
  • 25% of the labeling campaign to improve the vandalism detection on Wikidata has been done. Please help by reviewing a few edits!

Arabic sources about Ali Irsan and the murders of Gelareh Bagherzadeh and Coty Beavers?

Are there any Arabic sources about the murders perpetrated by en:Ali Irsan in Houston, Texas? He was a man from Jordan who became a U.S. citizen and lived in Texas. He murdered his daughter's best friend and her husband to punish her; he was convicted by the State of Texas and is on death row.

I haven't seen articles about this case reported in English-language media from Arab countries. He immigrated from Jordan to the US in the 1970s (although his current wife came from Jordan in the 1990s). He specifically asked the Texas court to not notify any foreign governments (i.e. the Jordanian government) about the case since he was a U.S. citizen. These factors may mean there are few, if any, Arabic-language articles about this case. Nonetheless I am interested in knowing if there are any.

Also, how do you write the names of the following in Arabic?

• Ali Mahmood Awad Irsan (I've seen different variations of his name reported in English newspaper articles, and I don't know his full Arabic name - the Federal Bureau of Prisons lists him as simply "Ali Irsan" while the Texas Department of Criminal Justice calls him "Irsan, Ali Awas Mahmoud")
• Shmou Ali Alrawabdeh - Irsan's second wife, who pleaded guilty to kidnapping Nesreen in exchange for leniency from Texas courts
• Nasemah Rachelle Irsan - Irsan's first daughter
• Nadia Irsan
• Nesreen Irsan (the target of Irsan's campaign)
• Nasim Irsan

The GFDL license on Commons

This has been posted here because your wiki allows local file uploads. رجاء ساعد في الترجمة للغتك.

Commons will no longer allow uploads of photos, paintings, drawings, audio and video that use the GFDL license and no other license. This starts after 14 October. Textbooks, manuals and logos, diagrams and screenshots from GFDL software manuals that only use the GFDL license are still allowed. Files licensed with both GFDL and an accepted license like Creative Commons BY-SA are still allowed.

There is no time limit to move files from other projects to Commons. The licensing date is all that counts. It doesn't matter when the file was uploaded or created. Every wiki that allows local uploads should check if bots, scripts and templates that are used to move files to Commons need to be updated. Also update your local policy documentation if needed.

The decision to allow files that only have a GFDL license, or not allow them, is a decision all wikis can make for themselves. Your wiki can decide to continue allowing the files that Commons will no longer allow after 14 October.
